1. Time duration
- To express time duration, the verb 걸려요 is used after the length of time. 분 "minutes", 일 "days", 개월 "months", 년 "years" are expressed with the Sino-Korean numbers, and 시간 "hours", 달 "months" are expressed with the native Korean numbers.
(ex. 시간이 10분 (십분) 걸려요.
시간이 5시간 (다섯시간) 걸려요.
시간이 3일 (삼일) 걸려요.
시간이 6달 (여섯달) 걸려요. = 시간이 6개월 (육개월) 걸려요.
시간이 5년 (오년) 걸려요.)
- Use the question word 얼마나 "how long/ how much time" to ask about time duration (ex. 시간이 얼마나 걸려요?)
2. Place marker ...에서 ...까지 "from... to..."
- To express distance, place the marker 에서 after the place you've left from and 까지 after the arrival place. If the context is clear, one of these can disappear. (ex. 미네소타에서 캔사스까지 차로 10시간 (열시간) 걸려요., 집에서 회사까지 버스로 30분 (삼십분) 걸려요.)
- These place markers ...에서 ...까지 is different from the time marker ...부터 ...까지
3. Reading prices with units (일, 십, 백, 천, 만, 십만, 백만, 천만, 억) - Prices are read with the Sino-Korean numbers - Numbers are read based on their basic units (일, 십, 백, 천, 만, 억) - Number one is not said if it's the first number of the digit 4. Question word 얼마 "how much?" - 얼마 is followed by -예요, and 얼마예요 always goes at the end of the sentence (ex. 이거 얼마예요? 커피가 얼마예요? 김치찌개 얼마예요?) 5. (noun) 주세요 "Give me (noun) please" - Use this expression when asking for something - Add the word 좀 after an object of a sentence or in the beginning of the sentence if there is no object in the sentence to make a request with courtesy (ex. 물 좀 주세요. 영수증 좀 주세요.) - When asking for a specific amount of some noun: noun + native Korean number + counting word + 주세요 (ex. 커피 한 잔 주세요. 표 네 장 주세요.) 5. -하고 "and" (used only with nouns) - To connect two nouns, use 하고 between those two nouns (ex. 빵하고 커피 주세요. 밥하고 김치 주세요.) 6.
